Restores packages/chat-ui (40 files), deleted in #6435 as an "orphan package."

It was not an orphan. It depends on @superset/chat — the chat-v3 protocol package — which makes it the in-progress UI layer for chat-v3, not debris. The deletion was justified on the evidence that nothing imported it, and that was the wrong test: zero importers is exactly what unfinished-but-intended work looks like. The check that would have caught it is "what does this package depend on?", which points at chat-v3 and reveals intent.

Restores PromptInput (with its Lexical editor), ComposerDropZone, ScrollToBottomButton, their shared components, and the two storybook wiring lines in packages/ui. Verified byte-identical to the pre-deletion tree.

Everything else in #6435 stands — the chat-legacy hono server, the device-presence system, and the device_presence table were all genuinely dead.

Verification: lint exit 0 · typecheck exit 0 (38/38) · sherif exit 0.

Summary by cubic

Restore packages/chat-ui as the in‑progress UI for chat‑v3, reversing its removal in #6435. It depends on @superset/chat, so the package was not an orphan; restoring it unblocks chat‑v3 work without changing app behavior.

Written for commit 1ccbdcf. Summary will update on new commits.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added a reusable chat composer with rich prompt editing, mentions, slash commands, attachments, drag-and-drop uploads, dictation, and submission controls.
    • Added attachment previews, removal controls, command and mention menus, context panels, and selectable mention chips.
    • Added a scroll-to-bottom control for chat transcripts.
  • Documentation
    • Added Storybook examples covering chat, recording, dictation errors, browsing, and attachment workflows.

chat-ui was deleted as an orphan on the evidence that nothing imported it. That was the wrong test: it depends on @superset/chat, the chat-v3 protocol package, so it is the in-progress UI layer for chat-v3 rather than debris. Zero importers is what unfinished work looks like too.

Restores all 40 files (PromptInput, ComposerDropZone, ScrollToBottomButton and their shared components) plus the two storybook wiring lines in packages/ui.

Merge Risk: 🟠 High · up to 1ccbd

The restored chat composer can leak microphone sessions, leave dictation stuck after recording failures, navigate away when files are dropped outside the zone, and remain indefinitely in a loading state after mention-search errors. These are concrete user-facing correctness and data-loss risks that should be fixed before merging.

Stop the recorder during unmount cleanup.

Cache the bar color instead of reading computed style each frame.

getComputedStyle(canvas).color runs on every animation frame. That forces a style recalculation about 60 times per second while recording. Read the color once when the session starts, or read it when the canvas size changes, and store it in a ref.

Settle the stop promise on failure.

The promise resolves only from recorder.onstop. If the recorder fails, onstop never fires. finish then never returns, the tracks at line 239 are never stopped, and the composer stays in the dictation state until the page reloads. Add an onerror handler that settles the promise, and release the stream in both paths.

Document the single-sink limitation.

register keeps one sink. If two composers mount inside the same ComposerDropZone, the second registration replaces the first, and dropped files always go to the most recently mounted composer. Restore getUserMedia and release the AudioContext.

stubMicrophone replaces navigator.mediaDevices.getUserMedia permanently and never restores it. Storybook runs all stories in one page session, so any story visited after Recording, DictationError, or a reload-free navigation keeps the synthetic microphone. The function also starts two oscillators and never calls context.close(), so audio nodes stay alive for the session.

Return a teardown function and call it from the story, or gate the stub on a flag so repeated calls do not stack new contexts.

Consider moving the demo fixtures out of the stories file.

The repository guideline for **/*.{tsx,ts} states "One component per file: No multi-component files". This file defines Favicon, PresetIcon, DemoToolbar, ChatScreen, and ComposerOnly in addition to the story exports. Move the demo components into a co-located folder, for example PromptInput/stories/ChatScreen/ChatScreen.tsx, and keep the stories file limited to meta and story objects.

As per coding guidelines: "One component per file: No multi-component files" and "Co-locate dependencies: Utils, hooks, constants, config, tests, stories live next to the file using them".

Escape trigger correctly and cache the compiled pattern.

\\${trigger} prefixes only one backslash to the whole trigger string. This is safe for the current callers, which pass "@" and "/". It is not safe for a generic exported helper: a trigger such as "b" or "w" becomes the escape sequence \b or \w and changes the match semantics. The pattern is also recompiled on every keystroke.

The ast-grep ReDoS hint is not applicable here. The pattern has no nested quantifier and is anchored, so matching stays linear. The OpenGrep command-injection.exec-js hint is a false positive; this file calls RegExp.prototype.exec, not child_process.exec.

Prevent the browser default for file drops outside the zone.

The document-level drop listener only clears overlay state. It does not call preventDefault. The inner div prevents the default only for drops inside its own subtree. If the user misses the zone and drops a file on surrounding chrome, the browser applies its default action and navigates the window to the dropped file. The user then loses the current view and any unsent composer text.

The same applies to dragover: the browser needs preventDefault on dragover to make a drop target valid, and needs it on drop to suppress navigation.

🛡️ Proposed fix
 		const onDragOver = (event: DragEvent) => {
 			if (!Array.from(event.dataTransfer?.types ?? []).includes("Files"))
 				return;
+			event.preventDefault();
 			setIsDraggingFiles(true);
 			if (timer !== null) window.clearTimeout(timer);
 			timer = window.setTimeout(() => setIsDraggingFiles(false), 200);
 		};
-		const onDrop = () => {
+		const onDrop = (event: DragEvent) => {
+			if (Array.from(event.dataTransfer?.types ?? []).includes("Files"))
+				event.preventDefault();
 			if (timer !== null) window.clearTimeout(timer);
 			timer = null;
 			setIsDraggingFiles(false);
 		};

The inner onDrop handler keeps working, because it runs during bubbling before the document listener and its defaultPrevented check is unaffected.

Revoke attachment preview URLs when the component unmounts.

addFiles creates blob URLs at line 162. The code revokes them on remove, on preview error, and after submit. It does not revoke them when ComposerBody unmounts with attachments still present. Those blob URLs stay alive for the lifetime of the document.

Add an unmount cleanup that reads the latest attachments from a ref.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Track the highlighted entry identity, not the list length.

The effect depends on flatEntries.length. Search providers replace their entries on each keystroke (useMentionSources.ts). If the replacement list has the same length and selectedIndex does not change, the effect does not re-run. onSelectionChange then reports the previous entry, and onMentionHighlight in ComposerBody receives a stale entry.

Depend on the highlighted entry id instead.

Guard start against concurrent invocations.

Line 150 reads sessionRef.current, but line 202 assigns it only after getUserMedia resolves. Two rapid calls to start both pass the guard. The result is two MediaStream objects, two MediaRecorder objects, and two animation loops. The second assignment overwrites sessionRef.current, so the first stream, recorder, and AudioContext are never released. The microphone track stays live, and the orphan loop keeps calling draw() and setSeconds. A double click on the mic button is enough to reach this state.

Set a synchronous flag before the first await.

Clear searchPending when a search provider rejects.

Line 92 swallows the rejection without resetting searchPending[provider.id]. The section then keeps isLoading: true and renders loadingState indefinitely for that query. The flag only clears if the user changes the query to a value that succeeds, or clears the query.

Reset the flag in the rejection path, and skip the reset when the controller aborted.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Guard JSON.parse in toChip.

__dataJson can arrive from importJSON with persisted or externally supplied editor state. If that string is not valid JSON, toChip() throws. The composer calls toChip() inside a Lexical read during submit ($collectChips in ComposerBody.tsx), so one malformed chip breaks submission for the whole message.

lexical 0.41 DecoratorNode exportJSON importJSON updateFromJSON version field

💡 Result:

In Lexical 0.41, DecoratorNode and other custom nodes continue to utilize the standard serialization patterns involving exportJSON, importJSON, and updateFromJSON [1][2]. Key concepts and usage for these methods are as follows: exportJSON: This method defines how the node is serialized into a JSON object [2]. When overriding this, it is standard practice to return the spread of the super call combined with your node's specific properties (e.g., return {...super.exportJSON, myProperty: this.myProperty }) [1][3]. importJSON: This is a static method responsible for deserializing JSON back into a node instance [2]. It should typically serve as a wrapper that creates the node and delegates property setting to updateFromJSON to simplify implementation and support future subclassing [1][4][2]. updateFromJSON: This instance method is recommended for applying properties from the serialized JSON object to a node instance [1][2]. It should call super.updateFromJSON(serializedNode) and then apply the node's specific properties [1][2]. The LexicalUpdateJSON utility type is used to type the incoming JSON while ignoring standard properties like type and version, which allows for easier subclassing [1][2]. Versioning: Lexical recommends including a version field in your node's serialized JSON to manage breaking changes over time [4]. By including a version property, you can handle different data structures within your import/update logic [4]. When implementing these methods, updateFromJSON should generally ignore the type and version properties to maintain compatibility across base classes and subclasses [4]. For users of Lexical v0.26.0 or later, the NodeState API is available as an alternative to manual property management on subclasses, which automatically handles boilerplate for exportJSON, updateFromJSON, and other node lifecycle methods [5].

🌐 Web query:

Lexical v0.41.0 GitHub DecoratorNode exportJSON updateFromJSON source

💡 Result:

In Lexical v0.41.0, the exportJSON() and updateFromJSON() methods on DecoratorNode (and Lexical nodes in general) are the standard mechanism for handling custom serialization and deserialization [1][2][3]. Key technical details regarding these methods include: 1. exportJSON: This method determines how a node is represented as JSON [1][2]. When extending DecoratorNode with custom properties, you should extend the superclass's serialization by invoking super.exportJSON() [2]. Example: return {...super.exportJSON, myProperty: this.myProperty }; 2. updateFromJSON: Introduced to simplify the implementation of importJSON, this method allows subclasses to update their state from serialized data [2][3]. It is recommended to handle property logic here rather than in importJSON to enable inheritance [1][3]. When overridden, this method must call super.updateFromJSON(serializedNode) [1][3]. 3. Implementation Best Practices: - Use LexicalUpdateJSON<T> as the input type for updateFromJSON to ignore base properties (like type or version) that the superclass already handles [1][2][3]. - Lexical v0.26.0 introduced the NodeState API, which can reduce the need for custom exportJSON and updateFromJSON implementations by providing automatic support for many property management tasks [4]. While Lexical v0.41.0 introduced features such as DecoratorTextExtension [5][6], the fundamental API for exportJSON and updateFromJSON in DecoratorNode remains consistent with the established pattern used for custom Lexical nodes [1][3].

Preserve chips in HTML clipboard data.

Same-namespace Lexical paste already uses JSON and preserves the node. However, the inherited exportDOM emits only an empty <span>, and no importDOM can reconstruct the node on the HTML clipboard path. Add DOM converters if cross-editor or non-Lexical copy/paste must preserve chip identity. Remove the redundant type; super.exportJSON() already emits type and version. The direct-constructor importJSON remains valid for this node.
